"You are a Den of Vipers and Thieves"...

Standing up to Congressional Crooks, Wall-Street Doomsdayers and Banker Bullies... an old tradition in the USA.

No to the Bailout: We Can't Let Bankers Try to Blackmail America

"You are a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the eternal God, I will rout you out."

Today I turn over my space to Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United States, who said these fiery words to a delegation of bankers in 1832:

"Gentlemen, I have had men watching you for a long time, and I am convinced that you have used the funds of the bank to speculate in the breadstuffs of the country. When you won, you divided the profits amongst you, and when you lost, you charged it to the bank. You tell me that if I take the deposits from the bank and annul its charter, I shall ruin ten thousand families. That may be true, gentlemen, but that is your sin! Should I let you go on, you will ruin fifty thousand families, and that would be my sin! You are a den of vipers and thieves. I intend to rout you out, and by the eternal God, I will rout you out."

The issue back then was the Bank of the United States, a federally chartered institution-sort of a predecessor to the Federal Reserve-that Jackson, ever the populist, strongly opposed. Today, most people agree that a national bank is necessary, but as today's vote demonstrates, there is no national consensus on transferring wealth from the middle to the top. Good! Let's hope that principle holds true for a while longer.

Today, the same as back then, big bankers attempt to blackmail America: If you don't do things our way, exactly as we tell you, then the roof will cave in.

No sovereign nation should allow itself to be pushed around by finance like that. If it does, the same blackmail threat will be made again, and again, and again. The time has come to say "No!" And to make it stick.

There are plenty of other ideas for helping Main Street, including a plan advanced here last week, not Wall Street; now it's up to the American people to insist that those ideas get a full hearing. Because otherwise, we know what will happen: The Republican-Democratic elite will combine with Wall Street to worsen the economic situation, as a way of teaching the American people a harsh lesson, and ultimately bringing us to heel.

But maybe this time, we will not be moved.

More on Children's Use of Cell Phones, and brain cancer...

Mobile phone use 'raises children's risk of brain cancer fivefold'

Alarming new research from Sweden on the effects of radiation raises fears that today's youngsters face an epidemic of the disease in later life
By Geoffrey Lean, Environment Editor
Sunday, 21 September 2008

The Swedish research was reported this month at the first international conference on mobile phones and health
Children and teenagers are five times more likely to get brain cancer if they use mobile phones, startling new research indicates.

The study, experts say, raises fears that today's young people may suffer an "epidemic" of the disease in later life. At least nine out of 10 British 16-year-olds have their own handset, as do more than 40 per cent of primary schoolchildren.
Yet investigating dangers to the young has been omitted from a massive £3.1m British investigation of the risks of cancer from using mobile phones, launched this year, even though the official Mobile Telecommunications and Health Research (MTHR) Programme - which is conducting it - admits that the issue is of the "highest priority".
Despite recommendations of an official report that the use of mobiles by children should be "minimised", the Government has done almost nothing to discourage it.
Last week the European Parliament voted by 522 to 16 to urge ministers across Europe to bring in stricter limits for exposure to radiation from mobile and cordless phones, Wi-fi and other devices, partly because children are especially vulnerable to them. They are more at risk because their brains and nervous systems are still developing and because - since their heads are smaller and their skulls are thinner - the radiation penetrates deeper into their brains.
The Swedish research was reported this month at the first international conference on mobile phones and health.  ...

Bankrupt WaMu CEO got $147,000 per hour

Bankrupt WaMu CEO got $147,000 per hour

The top CEO of Washington Mutual, who got his job after the prior CEO bailed out with his own diamond-studded golden parachute less than three weeks earlier, quit yesterday and cashed in with $20 million in "salary" after only 17 days on the job.  His major "work" was engineering the bankruptcy of the firm.  Assuming he was on-call and active 24-hours a day, without a break, that figures to $49,019.60 per hour.   But more realistically, assuming he "worked" a mere 8 hours per day, it figures to $147,000 per hour.

WaMu Gives New CEO Mega Payout as Bank Fails
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,428641,00.html

Here's more, on a few other mega-firms that went bankrupt only a few days ago:

...the CEO of bankrupt Lehman Brothers, Richard Fuld, received total compensation of 71.9 million dollars in 2007, including stock, bonuses and other pay, according to a survey published by Forbes magazine.
Martin Sullivan, the chief executive of AIG, who left the insurance giant before it was rescued this month by the federal government, received 14 million dollars, a survey in USA Today said. He also quit with a severance package worth 47 million dollars.
Even punishment for those at the center of the chaos comes with a gold lining.
When the government took over collapsed mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, ousted bosses Daniel Mudd and Richard Syron were not allowed 12.59 million dollars worth in severance payments.
Yet they still got out the door with 9.43 million dollars in retirement benefits.
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=080926123140.jvg3mysz&show_article=1&lst=1

And BTW, that $700 Billion (or a cool Two Trillion once the interest payments over time are figured in)  works out to something between $10,000 to $20,000 being paid out by every working American citizen (assuming half the 300 million US population is defined as a worker).  An instant non-negotiable not-voted-for $20,000 tax from your pockets into the pockets of the "investor-class" who are ooh-soo-soorry about having gambled and lost in the Wall Street casinos, or who signed mortgage loan agreements which they did not read or understand, on wildly over-inflated properties they could not afford... but no matter.  Everyone will now socialistically pay their "fair share" equally, to compensate for the willfully criminal or stupidly irresponsible gambling away of private funds by a small minority of people, most of whom are among the most well-heeled of US citizens.

According to an ironic bit by Ann Coulter, the Clinton Congress had passed laws requiring banks to process mortgages where minority-status and low-income individuals could include welfare payments and unemployment benefits as "salary" -- leading to the joke about "food-stamp mortgages".

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=28714
Threatening lawsuits, Clinton's Federal Reserve demanded that banks treat welfare payments and unemployment benefits as valid income sources to qualify for a mortgage. That isn't a joke -- it's a fact.

Some of the same Congressmen who engineered that fiasco are today "standing tall" in front of the TV cameras, sweaty-faced and with phoney smiles, waving diamond-ring-studded hands in the air, and posturing about how they now have it all figured out, and what to do next (would you buy a used car from any of them?). They are the ones thumping the podium and with serious looks, demanding "quick action"!

A few in Congress appear to be resisting this Trillion Dollar bail-out, and instead want to engineer a loan to Wall Street, not a bald-faced "give-away", and that's a big improvement -- let them pay back whatever they get from the US Treasury... but it still stinks.

Once more, in case you haven't already, make your voice heard, or don't complain when you get the bill.

Scientists warn US Congress of cancer risk for cell phone use

Scientists on Thursday warned US legislators of the risks of brain cancer from cell phone use, highlighting the potential risk for children who use mobile phones.
"We urgently need more research," said David Carpenter, director of the Institute of Health and Environment at the University of Albany, in testimony before the House Subcommittee on Domestic Policy.
"We must not repeat the situation we had with the relationship between smoking and lung cancer," Carpenter said.
Ronald Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, said that most studies "claiming that there is no link between cell phones and brain tumors are outdated, had methodological concerns and did not include sufficient numbers of long-term cell phone users."
Many studies denying a link "defined regular cell phones as 'once a week,'" added Herberman.
"I cannot tell this committee that cell phones are definitely dangerous. But, I certainly cannot tell you that they are safe," he said.
Carpenter and Herberman both told the committee the brain cancer risk from cell phone use is far greater for children than for adults.
Herberman held up a model for lawmakers showing how radiation from a cell phone penetrates far deeper into the brain of a 5-year-old than that of an adult.
"Every child is using cell phones all of the time, and there are three billion cell phone users in the world," said Herberman.
He added that, like the messages that warn of health risks on cigarette packs, cell phones "need a precautionary message."
Noting that numerous US studies have not found a definitive cancer-phone link, Carpenter asked: "Are we at the same place we were with smoking and lung cancer 30 years ago?"
The committee were shown several European studies, particularly surveys from Scandinavia -- where the cell phone was first developed -- which show that the radiation emitted by cell phones have definite biological consequences.
For example, a 2008 study by Swedish cancer specialist Lennart Hardell found that frequent cell phone users are twice as likely to develop a benign tumor on the auditory nerves of the ear most used with the handset, compared to the other ear.
In addition, a paper published this month by the Royal Society in London found that adolescents who start using cell phones before the age of 20 were five times more likely to develop brain cancer at the age of 29 than those who didn't use a cell phone.

More Big Bailouts On the Way.

Egad, the pigs are now all lining up for their turn at the trough, like never before.  Michelle Malkin has a series of articles on the subject.  Disgusting.

"No Bailouts for Billionaires".

And now... Back to work...

Big Bailouts For Billionaires!?

The economic news is stunning, as the majority of pols from both parties push for the worst kind of "corporate socialism", where the national treasury becomes a new trough at which the pigs can gorge.  People are properly expressing outrage, sharing emails and articles exposing various aspects of the fantastic irresponsible abuse of private funds on Wall Street, and taxpayer funds by Congress and the Bush administration -- none of which have exercised much responsibility or restraint, and all of which deserve proper credits and condemnations for the current Big Mess.  Right along with the "Little Man" investor who willy-nilly handed over wads of cash to the sharks at the Black Jack table, hoping to also "cash in".

We are also being beaten over the head with Great Depression Horror Stories, or worse, as if cannibalism will appear across the land, with Hell On Earth breaking out all over if the Big Bailout for Billionaires Bill does not pass, Immediately(!).  Don't believe it.  As one newspaper critic noted, that is the story line one typically gets from a used car salesman.  (If you don't close the deal right now..."! )  We all know what rotten fish smells like, and this is it.

Complaining is good and necessary, but action is better.  Now is the time to contact your elected representatives, with both emails and telephone calls, and remind them that you are a voter, and demand "No Bailouts for Billionaires" or other high-risk stock-market casino gamblers.

Low Sunspots, Solar Wind at 50-Year Low... Cooling?

The Sun showed one spot yesterday, breaking a patter of zero spots over many months.  A photo is attached (see the OBRL Blog or the weblink below if your email system does not reproduce the image).  Look real close and don't blink, and maybe you can see it in the middle of the white circle.
http://spaceweather.com/

Now the news of an historically-low solar wind.

http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2008/23sep_solarwind.htm?list142775
Solar Wind Loses Power, Hits 50-year Low
Sept. 23, 2008: In a briefing today at NASA headquarters, solar physicists announced that the solar wind is losing power.
"The average pressure of the solar wind has dropped more than 20% since the mid-1990s," says Dave McComas of the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, Texas. "This is the weakest it's been since we began monitoring solar wind almost 50 years ago."
...*snip*

This pattern of solar activity matches the slight cooling which has taken place globally over the last several years.  And it is in keeping with the theory of Svedmark as outlined in a recent new book (see THE CHILLING STARS: A New Theory of Climate Change, by Henrik Svensmark & Nigel Calder, in the OBRL bookstore section on "Climate Change" http://www.orgonelab.org/cart/xclimate.htm )  His theory argues for increased cosmic rays as the consequence of a reduce solar wind.  The increased cosmic rays produces increased "muons" in the troposphere, which increases cloud-condensation nuclei and cloud cover, producing more rain and snow, stronger storms, etc., all of which works to reflect more sunlight back out into space and reduce temperatures.   This theory is also more in keeping with an energy-rich cosmic substrate, which is influenced by solar variability.  There also is evidence from Reich's GM experiments, as verified now in James DeMeo's experimental work at OBRL (see the recent OBRL Newletter of August 2008 http://www.orgonelab.org/OBRLNewsletter.htm ) showing an abundant increase in "muon" type of particle-discharges within orgone-charged GM tubes.  This would suggest an identity of cosmic radiation with excited and highly-charged orgone energy in space, and of "muon" particles in the lower atmosphere.

New View of Milky Way Galaxy - Cosmic Superimposition!

The revised mapping of our Milky Way galaxy now shows two major streams, more clearly suggestive of the Cosmic Superimposition theory of Wilhelm Reich.  Article and photo-images are here:

New Items on the Sahara Wet Period

6000 years ago, the Sahara Desert was wet and lush.  Climate in Europe was then much colder and wetter also, with heavier rains in Tropical Africa.  Here's a couple of articles on the Sahara wet period, which parallel the findings as presented in my book Saharasia: The 4000 BCE Origins of Child Abuse, Sex-Repression, Warfare and Social Violence, In the Deserts of the Old World.

All of this new discovery is basically in keeping with the findings presented in Saharasia years ago: an early wet period in the Saharasian regions characterized by food abundance and peaceful social conditions, followed at some point by drying-out, food scarcity, increased conflict and human social armoring.

For the researcher, here is an excellent climate-reconstruction website which covers the period inclusive and after the last glacial Ice Age epoch, going back some 150,000 years.

This report is for an isolated ecosystem that benefited from drainage and spring water over aeons, with a broader skirt of vegetation around its central lake... and so its climate history is not representative of the broader Sahara.  Nobody starved at this particular location, but it is not reflective of other more distant regions which had no such constant water sources.   Unfortunately, the authors make statements trying to generalize this very special circumstance to the entire Sahara.  But it is very useful to know, isolated patches of the larger extremely dry Sahara remained wet all the way into modern times.

Seminar Series on Reich in NYC, Starting Sept 27.

Courtesy Announcement:

SPRING AND FALL SEMINARS OFFERED BY
THE INSTITUTE FOR THE STUDY OF THE WORK OF WILHELM REICH

The Institute for the Study of the Work of Wilhelm Reich announces the 20th  year of its spring and fall seminars covering selected topics in orgonomy, and on the work of Wilhelm Reich.

These seminars provide a forum for the study of the tremendous legacy left to us by Wilhelm Reich.  This legacy, the science of Orgonomy, has wide application in many of the social and physical sciences, but unfortunately remains mostly unheard of or misrepresented to this day. Yet Reich's work has predated, as well as been the foundation for, many of the ideas which currently have become more acceptable in today's sciences of psychology, medicine, social  psychology, as well as other areas like biology and animal behavior. The seminar is open to the general public and the interested professional. No prior background in orgonomy or the work of Wilhelm Reich is required.

Format:  Each meeting will address a specific subject based upon readings from orgonomic literature.  In addition to these active 'reading groups' there will be an annual lecture on a designated topic.

Location:  All seminars are held in Manhattan.  Participants who live outside of the New York metropolitan area can attend via phone hookup.

TOPICS:.[All readings from - The Mass Psychology of Fascism. 1970 ed. Trans. By Vincent R. Carfagno. Pub. by Farrar Straus & Giroux.]

Sept. 27,  2008  Sat. 10am - 12noon

Letter on Cosmological Theory

The following recent letter may be of interest to OBRL-News subscribers:

++++++

Dear Mr. F.,
...
I've extensively researched the subject of Einstein's views as regarding anything which might approximate the life-energy of Reich.  As you may know, Reich and Einstein met and discussed the To-T experiment (thermal anomaly in the orgone accumulator) which Einstein firstly became fascinated about, sufficient to run an experiment -- but he was no experimental scientist, and this might have been one of the few that he ever attempted.  While he called the orgone energy "a bomb in physics" because he understood it would destroy much of existing theory, Einstein must have finally understood it would also obliterate his own relativity theory.   So Einstein finally rejected Reich's views entirely.  The issue about the To-T experiment, Einstein was totally wrong about, and Reich totally correct.  You can review the latest issue of the OBRL Newsletter for details about my own experimental verifications of the To-T experiment, here:
http://www.orgonelab.org/OBRLNewsletter.htm

But there are several earlier historical episodes which indicate Einstein was totally against anything that could be interpreted as evidence of a material ether in space, that space could not have any kind of tangible structure to it, and so the "wave" phenomenon had to be created by some other principle -- according to Einstein.  Perhaps you have seen his book or paper "Relativity and the Ether" wherein he states a medium in space is not incompatible with relativity theory, but only if it has no material properties, and remains only an abstraction!  Otherwise, a material-tangible ether would affect light-speed and yield up variations depending upon the motion of the source and the observer, which is forbidden in his theory.  The other aspect of this is even more important as it is empirical science and not merely theoretical.  And that is the issue of experimental detection of an ether and ether-drift.  This HAS been accomplished many times, including by Albert Michelson, but the history of it has basically been distorted and excluded from open discussion, almost as badly as the works of Reich have been excluded and suppressed.

For evidence on this latter concern, I would point you to my papers on the ether question, which summarize the evidence:

"Dayton Miller's Ether Drift Experiments: A Fresh Look"
http://www.orgonelab.org/miller.htm

"A Dynamic and Substantive Cosmological Ether"
http://www.orgonelab.org/DynamicEther.pdf

Both of these papers, together, discuss the positive evidence for ether and ether-drift, integrating that evidence with Reich's theory of Cosmic Superimposition, and also showing the identity of properties of the Miller-type of entrainable material ether to Reich's orgone energy (both are metal-reflectable, influenced by density of matter, having quasi-electrical properties, figure dominantly in the phenomenon of light, etc.)  In my view, the modern term "dark matter" is one and the same phenomenon, and we are currently undertaking experiments with orgone-charged Geiger-Muller counters and NaI(Tl) scintillation counters which are typically used in "dark matter" experiments.  They yield up a greater activity in keeping with "increased dark matter density" (eg, orgone energy) inside the orgone accumulator.

I am personally somewhat skeptical of all the talk about photons and today believe much of the photon evidence is in fact evidence of wave effects.  The double-slit experiments in particular may be easily explained as wave effects creating accumulated tensions within the crystal lattices of the film emulsions, or within PM tubes or CCD pixels, thereafter yielding up threshold effects which are misinterpreted as "particles".  The calcite crystal experiments suggestive of "instant communication" between "separate particles" also may merely be the consequence of light-waves being split into mirror-image curling wave-vortices by the crystals -- much like a ship produces two nearly-identical but oppositely spinning wave-curls on opposing sides of its bow (or, as does a plow moving through fresh moist soil) thereby yielding misperceived "particles" at opposing distance detectors with "opposing properties".  This has nothing to do with a "cosmic consciousness" or anything similar which demands "instant communication" between the independent particles.  It is merely the result of the wave-train produced inside the calcite crystal at the time the light-beam is split into two identical but opposite-vortex components within independent light-waves, with the subsequent transmission of those wave properties by the ether, in which the light-waves and experimental apparatus are submerged.  And so on.

It could be, my view is in keeping with your ideas.  Or, they could be entirely at odds.  I cannot say, but do know both Reich's discoveries on the tangible and material orgone, and those of Miller and others on the tangible and material ether in space, are accurate by reproducible experimental proofs, even if those proofs have a long history of being totally ignored or misrepresented by mainstream science publications.  Both Miller and Reich described the mostions and orientations of the Earth in space, relative to this material and substantive energy continuua, and the spiral-form motion of Earth through space (as it moves around the Sun) is critical to any understanding of the relationships.  It therefore demands all honest science to embrace the experimental facts and adjust their theoretical ideas accordingly.  The general trend has been, unfortunately, to try and "make the ether immaterial" by declaration alone, and ignoring of the positive evidence for its material and substantive nature.  And to declare "orgone energy does not exist", or alternatively to declare without evidence, that the orgone energy is a metaphysical principle also devoid of properties and substance.   Both declarations serve the function to obliterate out the intensive nature and experience of life, and to render down the cosmos into a sterile vacuous nothing.

Diana West: Europe Going Sharia...

http://townhall.com/Common/PrintPage.aspx?g=b87e3c06-fc12-4356-b876-b4cfb68fa5e0&t=c

We Are Losing Europe to Islam
Diana West
Thursday, September 18, 2008
With Wall Street convulsing, and the White House race intensifying, the question "Who lost Europe" is on no one's lips, let alone minds. Indeed, the question begs another: "Is Europe lost?"
The answer to the second question is, "No, not yet." And losing Europe, I would add, is by no means inevitable. But that doesn't mean the continent isn't currently hell-bent to accommodate the dictates of Islamic law, bit by increasingly larger bit. Such a course of accommodation, barring reversal, will only hasten Bernard Lewis' famous prediction that Europe will be Islamic by century's end.
And what do I mean by "accommodation"? Well, to take one tiny example, one snowflake in a blizzard of such examples, there are schools in Belgium that not only serve halal food to Muslim and non-Muslim alike (old news), but, according to a recent French magazine report, no longer teach authors deemed offensive to Muslims, including Voltaire and Diderot; the same is increasingly true of Darwin. (Don't even ask about the Holocaust.)
For a more substantial, indeed, keystone example of accommodation, we can look to England, where, it pains me to write, Sharia courts are now officially part of the British legal system. According to press reports this week, the British government has quietly, cravenly elevated five Sharia courts to the level of tribunal hearings, thus making their rulings legally binding.
It may be difficult to quantify the impact of a Voltaire vacuum on the continent, but we can instantly see the inequities of British Sharia (I can't believe I'm writing that phrase). Among the first official verdicts were those upholding the Islamic belief in male supremacy. These included an inheritance decision in which male heirs received twice as much as female; and several cases of domestic violence in which husbands were acquitted and wives' charges were dropped. ...

Chilling Reports on Global Cooling

Here's a couple of articles on the subject.

From Accuweather:

Recent Chill could be Start of Longer Term Cooling, says Researcher
http://global-warming.accuweather.com/2008/09/recent_chill_be_the_start_of_l_1.html

This news article makes reference to a theoretical prediction by Prof. Don Easterbrook of Western Washington University, whose report is located here:
http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~dbunny/research/global/glocool_summary.pdf
Easterbook states:

Global temperatures during the Medieval Warm Period (900-1300 AD) were slightly higher than at present but plunged about 4° in only 20 years, initiating the Little Ice Age that caused severe famines in Europe and leading to the deaths of about one third of the population. Unfortunately, the Medieval Warm Period pre-dated direct observation of sun spots, but for about 100 years (beginning in 1609), sun spots were rare (the Maunder Minimum) and global climate was icy. Virtually all scientists now accept a solar cause of the Little Ice Age. The concern of the Canadian and Russian astrophysicists is that, leading into the coming predictable solar cycle, they are seeing a much lower level of sun spot activity than expected, resembling that which accompanied the plunging global temperatures at the beginning of the Little Ice Age. This is a distinct possibility. However, I think a more likely scenario is that we may be heading for a deeper global cooling than the last one (~1945 to 1977), perhaps similar to the 30-year cool period from 1880 to 1910 when many cold weather records were set.

This is all in keeping with standard climatology as known for many years (but basically ignored by advocates of the CO2 greenhouse theory).  The part which is new to me, is the claim of a drop of 4 degrees in 20 years.  That is an alarmingly steep change, but so has been the drop in global temperatures over the last two years.

Here's another related report:

http://www.redorbit.com/news/science/1553271/scientists_say_antarctic_winter_ice_is_growing/index.html
Scientists Say Antarctic Winter Ice Is Growing
Experts reported on Friday that the amount of sea ice around Antarctica has grown in recent Septembers in what could be an unusual side-effect of global warming.
Since the late 1970s, in the southern hemisphere winter, when emperor penguins huddle together against the biting cold, ice on the sea around Antarctica has been increasing, perhaps because climate change means shifts in winds, sea currents or snowfall.
But Arctic sea ice at the other end of the planet is now close to matching a September 2007 record low at the tail end of the northern summer in a threat to the hunting lifestyles of indigenous peoples and creatures such as polar bears.
"The Antarctic wintertime ice extent increased...at a rate of 0.6 percent per decade" from 1979-2006, said Donald Cavalieri, a senior research scientist at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
He said at 19 million sq kms (7.34 million sq mile), it is still slightly below records from the early 1970s of 20 million. The average year-round ice extent has risen too.

What's interesting here is, no matter what happens climatically -- even cooling and more sea ice -- advocates of global warming will claim this all is "in agreement" with their theory.  That's problematic indeed, as the power and value of a theory, and its accuracy and correctness, is measured by its ability to predict.  If a theory is so totally useless that it cannot predict how nature functions or behaves, then it is of no value. So if you have a theory of global warming which does not embrace the idea of cyclical changes (that it is a forcing change from increased CO2, for example), but global cooling takes place instead, then your theory has been negated.  Now there are other theories, such as the system's view of the planet, which says warming and cooling cycles develop due to homeostatic feedback mechanisms, where one thermal situation progressively replaces the other due to how warming or cooling creates more or less precipitation and snowfall.  Or others which relate those thermal oscillations to changes in the length of the solar sunspot cycle, or the longer term cycles of solar luminosity.

'Fewer hurricanes' as world warms
By Mark Kinver
Science and nature reporter, BBC News
The study suggests hurricanes could become less frequent
Hurricanes and tropical storms will become less frequent by the end of the century as a result of climate change, US researchers have suggested.

The original theory predicted just the opposite, more hurricanes from global warming, not less... in spite of the fact that all empirical evidence from the Little Ice Age shows the existence of massive North Atlantic storms of a ferocity to suggest hurricanes might have ranged very far to the north.

More will be posted on this subject as the reports come in.

Massive Gain in Arctic Ice - But No Meat for You!

Arctic Ice Increase Twice the Size of Germany: "colder weather" to blame.

But the UN isn't content just to regulate your light bulbs.  Now, they will tell you what to eat, as well as what to think, say, write and read.

Arctic Sees Massive Gain in Ice Coverage
Michael Asher (Blog) - September 3, 2008 2:44 PM

A map of the sea ice increase from the same month last year
Increase twice the size of Germany: "colder weather" to blame.

Data from the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) has indicated a dramatic increase in sea ice extent in the Arctic regions. The growth over the past year covers an area of 700,000 square kilometers: an amount twice the size the nation of Germany.
With the Arctic melting season over for 2008, ice cover will continue to increase until melting begins anew next spring.
The data is for August 2008 and indicates a total sea ice area of six million square kilometers. Ice extent for the same month in 2007 covered 5.3 million square kilometers, a historic low. Earlier this year, media accounts were rife with predictions that this year would again see a new record. Instead, the Arctic has seen a gain of about thirteen percent.
William Chapman, a researcher with the Arctic Climate Research Center at the University of Illinois, tells DailyTech that this year the Arctic was "definitely colder" than 2007. Chapman also says part of the reason for the large ice loss in 2007 was strong winds from Siberia, which affect both ice formation and drift, forcing ice into warmer waters where it melts.
Earlier predictions were also wrong because researchers thought thinner ice would melt faster in subsequent years. Instead, according to the
NSIDC, the new ice had less snow coverage to insulate it from the bitterly cold air, resulting in a faster rate of ice growth.
Most concern has focused on the Arctic regions, rather than Antarctica. Recent
research has indicated Antarctica is on a long-term cooling trend, for reasons which remain unclear.
Earlier this year, concerns over global warming led the US to officially list the polar bear a threatened species, over objections from experts who claimed the animal's numbers were increasing.

People should have one meat-free day a week if they want to make a personal and effective sacrifice that would help tackle climate change, the world's leading authority on global warming has told The Observer
Dr Rajendra Pachauri, chair of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which last year earned a joint share of the Nobel Peace Prize, said that people should then go on to reduce their meat consumption even further.

Big Chill Coming? No Sunspots for a Month...

No sunspots for a full month.  Early frost across much of the USA and other world regions.  While the North Pole may show a loss of floating sea ice, Greenland is building ice in its central regions, and the Southern Pole core ice areas, and its sea ice, has not shown any signs of decrease.  Nobody can claim a 100% understanding or capacity to predict with full assurance, but those who do claim that "The Debate is Over" and wish to push massive legislative agendas based upon theories that don't accurately predict what is happening in nature, are most certainly untrustworthy and anti-scientific in the extreme.

Sun Makes History: First Spotless Month in a Century

Drop in solar activity has potential effect for climate on earth.

The sun has reached a milestone not seen for nearly 100 years: an entire month has passed without a single visible sunspot being noted.
The event is significant as many climatologists now believe solar magnetic activity - which determines the number of sunspots -- is an influencing factor for climate on earth.
According to data from Mount Wilson Observatory, UCLA, more than an entire month has passed without a spot. The last time such an event occurred was June of 1913. Sunspot data has been collected since 1749.
